ALMUTEMAscendant Square Mercury
Ascendant represents your body, your make-up and how you present yourself and begin things; Mercury, the way you think, speak and learn.
Mercury square the Ascendant kindles nervousness in the expression of self: hurried thought and speech, restlessness, and a tongue that rushes or scatters. Well governed, it is a sharp mind learning to focus.
The square places Mercury near the Midheaven or the Imum Coeli. Near the Midheaven, thought becomes a working tool and reputation depends on what is said and written; near the Imum Coeli, ideas stay caught up in matters of family and home. The restlessness comes from wanting to think faster than one acts. Tradition advises looking at what aspects Mercury: with benefics, the tension becomes sharpness; with malefics, it calls for care with contracts and with words spoken without thought.
