The cold of the old man clashes head-on with the heat of the throne, and the heavy humility of Saturn scarcely fits a sign made to shine and command. It inclines to a tension between the desire for recognition and the difficulty of attaining it — a pride that finds no stage, a will to command checked by doubt or by hard circumstance. There may be an authority that is hard to have accepted, or a weight in the relationship with the father and with the figures of power. It gives, at most, a serious dignity without easy brilliance, won against the current. But because he is in detriment, the danger is the proud coldness, the heart that hardens, the ambition for honour that is frustrated and turns bitter.
