How the Almanac works

The Almanac shows the best days of the month for everyday actions — cutting your hair, planting, travelling, caring for yourself — according to the rhythms of the Moon, in the tradition of the almanacs that have accompanied farming and daily life for centuries. It is not a horoscope and needs no birth data.

What is taken into account

  • Moon phase — waxing for what you want to grow or begin; waning for what you want to reduce, trim or end.
  • Moon sign — the sign the Moon occupies that day: water signs favour growth, fixed signs help what should last.
  • Lunar mansion — the Moon's position among the 28 mansions, each favouring or discouraging certain actions.
  • Condition of the Moon and ruler of the day — refine the assessment.

The reference moment

Readings are taken at noon (Lisbon time). The Moon moves quickly, so this is a guide for choosing the day, not the exact hour.

How to read the grid

Green dot = favourable day; amber = reasonable; no dot = no special indication. The “Moon in” strip shows the Moon's sign each day, and today's column is highlighted.

The tradition

The method rests on Western astrology and the classical almanacs (Lilly, Robson, Ramesey, among other public-domain authors).

Note

Health and wellbeing indications follow tradition and are not a substitute for medical advice. Never delay care because of a date.
