Tradition & sources

Almutem works in the line of traditional Western astrology. Everything the site computes and explains rests on classical, public-domain works — not on modern systems or proprietary sources.

The sources

  • Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos — the foundations: signs, dignities, temperament, aspects.
  • Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum — triplicities and elections.
  • Abu Ma'shar and Ibn Ezra — the Perso-Arabic doctrine; the Almuten Figuris.
  • William Lilly, Christian Astrology — dignities, judgement and horary.
  • Agrippa and the Picatrix — lunar mansions, planetary hours and the talismanic tradition.
  • Robson and Ramesey — almanac, mansions and elections.

The method

The site's choices are explicit and traditional: Placidus houses by default, Ptolemaic aspects with traditional per-planet orbs, Egyptian terms and Chaldean faces. The outer planets are shown but do not enter judgement.

Public domain

All the works cited are in the public domain. The site adapts and rephrases the doctrine in its own words — it neither reproduces texts nor claims their authorship.
