Mars in Cancer

Mars represents your energy, your desire and the courage to act. In Cancer, it expresses itself with sensitivity and a wish to look after your own.

Mars falls into Cancer — cardinal water, house of the Moon — and stands here in his fall, stripped of strength in the sign that most opposes him. The parched fire sinks into cold water, and the iron rusts in the tide; what in Mars was a sure blow becomes here a crooked one, dealt aslant and at the wrong hour. It inclines to a wrath that does not come out straight — a resentment that simmers below, an attack from the flank and not the front. The passion clings to home, to the mother, to roots, and arms itself in defence of the nest with a shellfish's claws. It tends to a humour that rises and falls with the tide, to a courage that hides in its shell and bites when cornered. It gives a fierce zeal for one's own, but little constancy in open assault. The danger is that of a force undermined from within: an arm that trembles where it should steady itself, a boiling without flame that scalds the one who keeps it.
