Mars crosses Gemini — mutable air, house of Mercury — as a peregrine, with neither dignity nor home of his own, subject to the lord of the place. Here the ardour passes from the arm to the tongue: the strife is made of words, the edge is that of argument, the war is waged in debate and mockery. Mercury scatters the fire in a hundred directions, and the force that ought to gather into a single blow crumbles into a thousand half-begun intentions. It inclines to swift dispute, to the irony that wounds, to wit set in service of the quarrel; a deft hand for trades of dexterity and fine instrument. It tends to inconstancy in combat, to quarrels with neighbours and brothers, to the spirit that provokes and slips away. Like the fencer who touches and steps back, it seldom holds what it strikes. The danger is that of an energy that speaks much and finishes little, fire carried off by the wind that fans and disperses it.
