The raw force is ill at ease where all is weighed, pondered, and brought to terms; Venus wants harmony and fairness, and Mars, who settles by a blow, is made to argue what he would cut. It inclines to a wrath dressed in courtesy, a strife waged in gloved hands, a quarrel that calls itself justice. The passion turns toward the other, and the fight is made of partnership and rivalry at once — adversary and equal in the same person. It gives ardour for the cause, pride in fairness, a will to do battle for those one loves. It tends to indecision at the moment of the blow, to the postponed conflict that festers, to war waged in the name of peace.
