In Pisces — mutable water, ruled by Jupiter — Mercury suffers a double misfortune: here is its detriment, opposite Virgo, and also its fall, cast down from the throne where it is most honoured. The water that dissolves everything undoes the distinctions on which it lives; the dry is lost in the moist and the judgement loses its outline. The mind is fluid, dreamy, given to intuition and to image, but ill-armed for the straight line and the exact calculation. The word is vague, suggestive, tender, more given to feeling than to defining. It inclines to imagination, to compassion, to a wit turned toward the invisible and the sacred. But because it is exiled and fallen, the danger redoubles: confusion, forgetfulness, the difficulty of fixing and ordering, the tendency to take reverie for truth and to lose itself where it ought to measure.
