Mercury in House 1
Mercury represents the way you think, speak and learn. House 1 is the house of your own life: the body, your general health, your temperament and the way you present yourself and set things in motion. It's the starting point for everything in the chart — where "you" stand.
In the first house — of life, of the body, of the person himself — Mercury finds its joy, the place where it is most at ease to be, for knowing ennobles the man and here the wit is fastened to the being. It is an angular house, among the strongest, where the planet acts in full and stamps its nature upon the whole character. Determined to this house, Mercury makes the understanding the mark of the person: the mind, the word and the curiosity become the very face with which the native presents himself to the world. It inclines to an agile, talkative, attentive temperament, in which the body closely follows the lively movements of the spirit. It gives a presence marked by intelligence and by ease of speech, an air of one who observes and calculates. As the planet takes the colour of what accompanies it and we have not yet said how it is here, dignified or afflicted, it remains to be said whether this wit is firm or fickle.
