Mercury in House 12

Mercury represents the way you think, speak and learn. House 12 is the house of what stays hidden: retreat, what goes on behind the scenes, secret fears and what holds you back within. It's a difficult place, but also one of silence and of the inner life.

In the twelfth house — of hidden enemies, of confinement, of grave illness, of institutions and of sorrows — Mercury enters a cadent and averse house, the darkest, of ill nature, where Saturn has its joy and where the sorrows are gathered in. Determined to this house, it turns the wit toward the secret and toward the shadow: the adversaries who do not show themselves, the studies made in isolation, the matters of prisons and hospitals. It inclines to a reserved mind, given to solitary work, to hidden knowing, to the thought that ruminates sorrows and suspicions. It gives a talent for what is done far from sight — the silent investigation, the dealing with institutions, the withdrawn meditation. It tends to a spirit subject to disquiets and to plots it does not see. As this planet has not yet shown its condition here, it remains open whether from such seclusion springs wisdom or only torment.
