In the ninth house — of long journeys, of faith, of high study and of the sacred — Mercury is in a cadent house of lesser strength, but of good nature, where the Sun has its joy and where the mind rises on high. Determined to this house, it applies the wit to the greater matters: philosophy, doctrine, law, the pilgrimage through distant lands. It inclines to a mind given to the knowing that raises, to the study of divine things and of the high sciences, to a taste for the foreign and the far. It gives a talent for higher teaching, for the interpretation of sacred texts, for the journey that instructs. It tends to a thought that seeks meaning and truth above immediate profit. As Mercury takes the colour of what surrounds it and we have not yet declared its condition here, it remains to know whether such a search reaches a firm port or wanders without ground.
