Mercury in House 8

Mercury represents the way you think, speak and learn. House 8 is the house of what you share and what comes from outside: inheritances, other people's resources, debts, and the major upheavals and losses. It's a deep and demanding place, of fears and of transformation.

In the eighth house — of death, of fear and of the goods of others — Mercury is in a succedent but averse house, of uncertain strength and gloomy nature, a place reached by the gathering in of fears. Determined to this house, it turns the wit toward what is hidden and toward another’s estate: the inheritances, the dowries, the debts, the money that comes by another’s hand. It inclines to an investigating mind, given to probing mysteries, to calculating what is not seen, to studying the end of things. It gives a knack for managing the goods of third parties, for the business of insurances and legacies, for the knowing of grave and hidden matters. It tends to a thought drawn by fear, by loss and by riddles. As this planet has not yet shown here whether it is dignified or afflicted, it remains open whether such wit profits from another’s or sinks in it.
