Mars in House 12

Mars represents your energy, your desire and the courage to act. House 12 is the house of what stays hidden: retreat, what goes on behind the scenes, secret fears and what holds you back within. It's a difficult place, but also one of silence and of the inner life.

The twelfth house — of hidden enemies, confinement, grave illness, sorrows, and large animals — is cadent and averse, and Mars here is among the most delicate of placements. It inclines toward active and dangerous secret enemies, toward the risk of hidden violence, prison, or seclusion, and toward harms that the native at times draws upon himself through his own anger; there is danger in accidents with large animals and in hidden undertakings. Even so, it gives courage to bear adversity and energy in behind-the-scenes work. Well disposed, it gives strength to overcome dissembling enemies and command over one’s own impulses; afflicted, it turns wrath against the native himself — self-destruction, hidden reverses, and the risk of prison or veiled violence.
